Ontario Invests $12 Million to Double Highway 7 Lanes, Boosting Economic Growth and Reducing Traffic.

The Ontario government is allocating $12 million to expand Highway 7 between Markham and Pickering, transforming it from two to four lanes. This enhancement aims to reduce traffic delays and support the growth of manufacturing, life sciences, and agriculture in Durham and York Region. The investment marks a key part of the 2024 Budget, initiating design and environmental assessments for the 10.4 km stretch, including local intersections and the Little Rouge Creek bridge. This project is set to foster better connectivity, economic development, and smoother travel, aligning with Ontario’s plan to accommodate the expected population boom in the Greater Golden Horseshoe by investing nearly $100 billion in infrastructure over the next decade.
